What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual form of therapy that emphasizes the structure-function relationship of anatomy and physiology in the human body as a whole. First introduced by founder A.T. Still in the 1870s, osteopathy is a science, a philosophy, and a practice. The therapy is principles-based, with the cornerstone belief that the body has the ability to self-heal and self-regulate. Treatment is specific to the patient's individual needs and may involve the soft tissues, nervous systems, and visceral organs through the use of gentle manipulations. Treatments work on restoring proper mechanics, nervous tissue function, and proper vascular circulation to a healthy state. Manual Osteopathic Practitioners are educated and trained to work exclusively without the use of drugs, using manual methods for structural assessment and treatment.
Benefits of Osteopathy
Osteopathic services are not meant to replace traditional medical interventions and practitioners do not diagnose or treat specific medical (allopathic) conditions. If you have a medical concern, please see your doctor.
